June – July
This event is the third Wave of the Better World Series — an ongoing project that builds community, profiles changemakers, and inspires action for the purpose of building a better world. This Wave’s theme is Peace Out, Plastics!
Thursday, June 29 • 6-9PM
Impact Hub Santa Barbara
Tickets are $15
For this exciting Wave, we’ll be joined by eco-adventurer, film-maker and well known anti-plastics advocate, Alison Teal. Alison has been called the female Indiana Jones for her adventurous ocean-based lifestyle. Alison will be joined by Rachel Lincoln Sarnoff, Executive Director of international nonprofit 5 Gyres, in an intimate 1-on-1 discussion highlighting Alison’s worldwide travels and her ongoing efforts to reduce plastic waste and educate the public about the harm inflicted by oceanic plastic pollution. Alison will use film and photos to emphasize her presentation and inspire conversation.
Theres more! The event will showcase the work of a number of business and nonprofits working on plastics reduction through innovation and education.
Come check out the latest and the greatest in plastic-free and upcycled lifestyle products and services.
Don’t miss out on this enlightening and fun conversation. Ticket entry gets you 100 new friends, live music by Erisy Watt, yummy appetizers by our friends at Duo Catering and Events, 1 complimentary beverage by Rincon Brewery (extra drinks $5), and dozens of ‘good citizen’ points. See ya there!
Activation 1 will be a beach clean-up on Saturday morning from 10:30am-12pm at Arroyo Burro Beach in Santa Barbara. Alison Teal will team up with LoaTree, Explore Ecology and Save the Mermaids at the Watershed Resource Center, providing a brief introduction and welcome before hitting the beach for some good, clean fun! Come one, come all – and bring the kids! This event is FREE.
Activation 2 will take place on Saturday afternoon (12pm), also at the Watershed Resource Center at Arroyo Burro Beach. At this event, participants will be joined by Ventura-based ‘The Refill Shoppe’ as they create their own unique, up-cycled products while enjoying mimosas, non-alcoholic beverages, and local appetizers. ‘What’s on tap,’ you ask? Participants will make their own toothpaste, laundry detergent, storage-ware and other household necessities out of local and non-toxic ingredients, taking them home in re-used and re-usable jars and containers.
Activation 2 is extremely limited.
